International Refugee Community Garden

Provides opportunities to participate in and benefit from urban farming and gardening, community-led food distribution, health and wellness education, and neighborhood land stewardship.

Cultivates a community garden. Distributes produce to community members in need. Provides volunteer opportunities.

Provides educational information, literature on gardening and related topics, and master gardener program.

Provides food, nutritional education program (Fulton County Super Cupboard), gardening program each Spring, Summer school lunch program, school backpack program, and budget/lifestyle counseling.

Works to engage the community for the success of its students and neighbors. Organizes and promotes community program such as the Music for Lunch series, Second Saturday Night Live Concerts, block parties and park parties, Grow Meadville, Pop-Up shops, Thankful Thursdays, Meadville Calendar.com, and Community Coordinator position.

Promotes a healthy neighborhood by providing activities and advocacy that engage adults and children in positive experiences. Children's activities include self-esteem and conflict resolution, art and crafts, environmental education and theme-based activities. Adult activities include cooperation with local agencies, neighborhood assessment, referrals, English as a Second Language (ESL) home tutoring, educational mentoring, computer assistance, beautification programs and collaboration with the Burton Diehl Neighborhood Organization.

Provides a tool lending library and bulk garden materials depot. Seeks to reduce barriers to growing food by making it easier for gardeners in the region to access the tools and supplies they need to grow successful home and community gardens. For a sliding scale annual membership fee, the GRC allows patrons to access free garden tool rentals and bulk materials such as organic compost, mulch, and soil amendments.

Serves the home gardening public by answering questions, speaking to groups, working with 4-H horticultural projects, participating in civic beautification, maintaining demonstration gardens, teaching plant sciences, and horticulture.
