Schuylkill Community Action - Utility Assistance

Offers Utility Assistance through partnerships with PPL Electric Utilities and UGI (United Gas, Inc.). The program is designed to help low-income individuals pay for essential utility services, depending on program funding availability. Programs: On Track (PPL Electric) The On Track program helps PPL customers catch up on past-due electric bills by lowering monthly payments and forgiving a portion of back debt when program requirements are met. Proof of income is required for the application. SCA staff can assist in checking eligibility before enrollment. Program benefits include: Reduced monthly payments Forgiveness of part of any past-due balance when payments are on time Energy education Operation HELP (PPL Electric) Operation HELP provides emergency financial assistance and energy support to low- and fixed-income PPL customers, funded by PPL employees and customers. Eligible households can earn up to 250% of the federal poverty level. Assistance is available to those who may not qualify for LIHEAP or are experiencing severe hardship. UGI Customer Assistance Program (CAP) & Operation Share These programs help UGI customers manage past-due gas utility bills through income- or usage-based payment agreements, with opportunities for arrearage and shortfall forgiveness. Eligibility – UGI CAP & Operation Share Total household income must not exceed monthly federal poverty guidelines Must have an active UGI account and use UGI as primary gas supplier Applicant must live at the property and have service in their name Must have a verifiable source of income Landlords are not eligible

Also provides vouchers for clothing, household items, and furniture for use at Saint Vincent de Paul thrift stores. Sponsors a food pantry in Butler that serves over 500 families every month. Food bank members can expect to receive vegetables, fruit, meat, dairy products, and non-perishable items. In addition, more than 20 Society Conferences host food pantries and many others provide some form of food assistance.
