The Office of the Sheriff is a full service law enforcement agency functioning 24-7. The office is responsible for providing security for the courts and its eight judges. The Sheriff has created a Junior Deputy Program to expose students to the risks of breaking the law. The office provides the D.A.R.E. program in the Scranton schools to teach students the dangers of drug abuse.

Seeks justice for victims of crime in Clinton County by acting as prosecuting service for the State. Prosecutes all violations of Pennsylvania Criminal Law within Clinton County's geographic boundaries. Provides services for victims of crimes of both adult and juvenile offenders.

The primary goals of the Reading Police Department include the protection of life and property, resolution of conflicts, and provision for a feeling of security in the community. The Department also endeavors to reduce the opportunities for the commission of crime through prevention strategies and identification, apprehension, and prosecution of offenders, as well as the preservation of the peace in the City of Reading.

Office is responsible for transporting all prisoners, transporting juveniles to and from detention centers and courts; docketing and serving summons, civil papers, mortgage foreclosures, personal sheriff's sales, protection from abuse orders, civil complaints, landlord/tenant complaints, orders of possession and execution for District Justices, and court bench warrants; conducting sheriff's sales; removing weapons from the homes; making arrests if a defendant violates the Protection from Abuse Order and for court bench warrants; and selling licenses for firearms to gun dealers and issuing concealed pistol permits.
