Helps improve the quality of life for older Philadelphians who are unemployed, underemployed, or seeking a career change. Services include career counseling and placement assistance; access to workshops on understanding transferable skills, computer and internet use, and resume and interview preparation; referrals to training programs, social services, and job fairs; and access to computer labs and on-line job leads.

The Meadows at Melmark is a work-centered program for adults with mild-to-moderate disabilities. Participants live with friends in staff-supervised, single-family homes, or in the community with their families. Adult Day Workshops provide services for adults with moderate-to-profound developmental and physical disabilities, based on individual needs and abilities. For adults with lower cognitive levels or those who are non-ambulatory, activities include multi-sensory stimulation, massage therapy, hand-over-hand training, and personal assistance.

Provides Community-Based Work Assessment which establishes job readiness, targets appropriate job matches, and recommends supports necessary to secure and maintain employment in the community.

Most individuals who come to Handi-Crafters have had little or no work experience. Here they are given the opportunity to learn and acquire good work skills through on-the-job training as they compensate and adapt around their disability. Over 300 people are employed in our workshops. They perform production service work for businesses. Our workshops can provide you with a range of work experiences. We complete jobs which involve packaging, assembling, heat sealing, collating, and non-industrial assembly. Opportunities are also available for qualified individuals to operate a variety of industrial machinery. Basic safety instruction is an integral part of our work program. Most of our jobs are paid at piece rate. Some of the more specialized work is paid by the hour. Paychecks are issued every other Friday. We provide three programs that address the needs of persons under the age of 22. They are as follows: 1. Our School-to-Work program is designed to provide high school-aged students with an IEP (Individualized Education Program) transition into the workplace. Through a vocational evaluation by our licensed psychologist and work done by the student in our workshop, the employment potential of the student is enhanced and assessed. In the workshop students develop vocational and employability skills that help them to successfully transition from school to work. If appropriate, students can also progress to participating in transitional work crews in the community. Students are paid at piece rate for the work they do in the workshop and at an hourly rate for community work crew. In addition, at the request of the school district, we can provide job development and job coaching. Helps individuals obtain and sustain paid employment by offering the support and training needed to succeed. Participants learn job search strategies and receive training for specific job assignments.

Prepares incarcerated individuals for success through offering a series of workshops on topics including social media, applying for medical benefits, securing housing, and obtaining education and employment. Provides one-on-one mentorship for at least six months to develop a personalized goal plan.

Helps TANF recipients and ex-offenders find employment or advance in their current jobs. Offers work readiness, life skills training, literacy tutoring, community work experience, case management, counseling, and job placement.

The Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, or OVR, provides vocational rehabilitation services to help persons with disabilities prepare for, obtain, or maintain employment. OVR provides services to eligible individuals with disabilities, both directly and through a network of approved vendors. Services are provided on an individualized basis. The OVR counselor, during face-to-face interviews, assists customers in selecting their choice of vocational goals, services and service providers. An Individualized Plan for Employment (IPE) is developed, outlining a vocational objective, services, providers and responsibilities. Certain services are subject to a Financial Needs Test (FNT) and may require financial participation by the customer. Counseling and guidance, diagnostic services, assessments, information and referral, job development and placement, and personal services such as readers or sign language interpreters are provided at no cost to the individual. Adult Day Programs - Day programs are created to meet each individual’s needs and skill set. Both licensed and unlicensed day programs are held in a safe and caring environment with a team of human service professionals. Adult Residential Programs - Support is provided to individuals in community homes or life sharing with a host family. Each individual is evaluated to determine which living environment will work best for them depending on their needs, wants, and goals. Behavioral Services - Behavior support services use empirically-validated practices to identify the causes of, intervene to prevent, and create appropriate reactions to problematic behavior. Vocational Training - Vocational Training provides the supports individuals need to successfully find and maintain a job. Individuals receive assistance to build their resume and discover their skills and abilities. Companionship Services - A companion is a Direct Services Professional that provides support in the individuals own home while
