Laurel House - Medical Advocacy (DART I)

Trains physicians, nurses, medical students, and other medical professionals to recognize the signs of domestic abuse. Provides on-site support when available to victims at local hospitals. Develops and distributes resource materials which are used by hospitals and health care providers when they are dealing with victims of domestic violence.

Provides individual or one-on-one counseling sessions. Counseling can be done at the WIN Victim Services offices in Chambersburg or McConnellsburg; counselors are not able to do in-home services. If transportation is an issue, phone counseling may be an option.

Provides a 24-hour confidential, domestic violence support hotline. Makes referrals for temporary or emergency safe shelter. Offers legal advocacy, including assistance with filing a Protection From Abuse Order. Coordinates with other social service agencies that provide assistance with health, finances, housing, drug/alcohol treatment, support groups, children's services, employment/training, food, furniture, clothing, and more. Provides referral and support services, child therapy, and the W.E.A.V.E. (Women's Empowerment Against Violent Environments) adult support group, which includes free childcare during group sessions. Delivers community education for all groups, including educational speakers and age-appropriate outreach materials. Provides accompaniment and/or transportation to appointments/hearings, including civil and criminal hearings. Also offers options for counseling and crisis response, with free childcare provided when necessary. Offers volunteer opportunities.

Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County - Prevention Education and Community Outreach

Offers specialized educational programs for community organizations, schools, and religious groups to increase public awareness about domestic abuse. Age appropriate preventive programing for Delaware County schools, in addition to in-service trainings for education professionals; workplace violence programs for local businesses; and distribution of literature on domestic abuse at presentations, health fairs, and other community events.

Community Action Partnership of Lancaster County - Domestic Violence Legal Center

Helps victims and survivors of domestic violence evaluate legal options that may be available to them. Through options counseling, advocates discuss the client's legal options and make appropriate referrals to additional service providers. If the client decides to pursue a Protection From Abuse Order (PFA), the advocate will assist the client in filing a petition, setting the hearing date, and acquiring the judge's signature on a temporary order. In addition, advocates often accompany clients to other court proceedings and appointments and act as the link between the client and the courts. The staff attorneys provide legal information and limited civil legal representation to victims of domestic violence. Emergency and difficult cases that deal with custody, support and divorce are given priority due to the overwhelming demand for these services.

York County SPCA - SafePet Program

Provides temporary emergency boarding for pets whose owners have fled or plan to leave a domestic violence situation, have been displaced by a natural disaster, or are experiencing homelessness. The SafePet program and services are free to pet owners with referrals from United Way or York County SPCA partner agencies. This program is only available for York County residents. The YCSPCA cannot accept pets into this program without a referral from a partner agency.
